Whether or not it gives you courage, it is known to lower blood pressure, which is great for your heart and helps prevent stroke. In addition, it has a long history as a digestive aid, so don't be shy with this wonderful herb, no matter what it does to your breath!

Ginger: This spicy root is known as the universal remedy. Although it's well-known as a stomach soother, it also improves circulation, fights tumors, reduces inflammation and boosts the immune system. Oh, and it's good for pain and a fever. The only possible drawbacks are for people with gallstones or those on blood thinners.

Baked Wrapped Tilapia

ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 1 inch cube fresh ginger, finely chopped or grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped or grated
  • 2 green onions (green part only), finely chopped
  • Fresh chile to taste
  • 1 cup finely chopped cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed (or safflower) oil
  • Dash of toasted sesame oil
  • Dash of soy sauce
  • Dash of fish sauce
  • 4 teaspoons dark maple syrup
  • Tilapia:
  • 4 fillets (1/2 cup each) fresh tilapia (or other firm-fleshed whitefish)
  • 4 large banana leaves (or unbleached parchment paper)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine all topping ingredients in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Place a fillet on each banana leaf and divide topping evenly among them, spreading it over the top. Fold each banana leaf over to form a packet around each fillet and seal the edge of each packet with a small piece of aluminum foil, crimping it tightly. Place on a baking sheet and bake 28 minutes.
